With the U.S. release of the 22nd James Bond movie “Quantum of Solace,” the city of Bregenz in the westernmost province of Austria is buzzing with Hollywood glamour. No wonder, since several scenes were shot on the floating stage of the annual Bregenz Festival – an event that attracts international crowds for its stunning location and high-quality performances. Unusual and spectacular venues are a key ingredient of James Bond movies and the floating stage of the Bregenz Festival is just that. “This is so Bond,” said Callum McDougall, the films executive producer, when he first saw the location. “The Tosca stage set with its gigantic blue eye fits in perfectly with the storyline of the new Bond movie," said Director Marc Forster earlier last year. The shoot required that a complete performance of Tosca be staged, which included more than 1,500 soloists and extras, orchestra, chorus members, and technicians. To experience Bregenz’s smart and stylish art and architecture yourself, go to www.austria.info/art for more information.
