Computer Touchscreen technology used in the newest James Bond thriller is finding its way into everyday computing.

One of the coolest tech gadgets used in the newest Bond movie Quantum of Solace wasn't a knife packing shoe, or a diving Lotus automobile. The real eye catcher was the computer system used in the make believe MI6 headquarters that used touchscreens to send files bouncing back and forth across multiple screens and with the twitch of a finger expanded and minimized photos and data. But this Technology isn't as far off as one might think, in fact it is becoming quite advanced in real world applications.

One of the nicest features for the Windows Vista operating system is the inclusion of the touchscreen technology. Microsoft has branded this as 'multitouch' technology, allowing more than one point of touch to manipulate the screen.

Microsoft Demo's also show the capabilty of the OS to detect wireless devices like mp3 players, cell phones, or camera when they are laid on the screen. And in a demo to the Wall Street Journal's D: All Things Digital conference, Julie Larson-Green, Microsoft's corporate vice president for Windows experience program management, showed a number of applications that could use the multitouch technology, including photography applications that enable a user to handle photos on the screen more easily. The user can drag and drop snaps, zoom in, and rotate snaps with his fingers. The musically inclined can play with their fingers on an on-screen piano keyboard.

This Technology will be carried on and play a large part in the upcoming Windows 7 OS which will be released soon. In the meantime HP is capitalizing on the technology with its new 'Touchsmart' PC's. A touchscreen with additional gadgets like a light to illuminate the keyboard, giving it a real futuristic feel.

You can view the Touchsmart PC's at this link:

There is also a video of the new Microsoft Technology up on youtube that shows the real world possibilities of the touchscreen. So this is a bit of Secret Agent tech that you can incorporate into your own HQ or Secret Lair, whatever side of the espionage world you happen to fall into.
